One aspect of the sneaker head culture I’ve always admired is custom designed sneakers. It may not be competitive, but the idea behind a majority of sneaker fans, is the hunt for the most rarest pairs available. Whats more rare than a pair of customs? Some may look down at them for not being “real”, but a well done pair can turn out better than anything you’ll ever see come out of Nike or any other professional brands. Its most certainly an art form. I have a talent for drawing but the one time I’ve attempted to redo a pair of Air Force ones, lets just say it wasn’t pretty.

With the ability to design freely and not worry about production costs, you get to see the imagination of artists really run wild. A true master of his/her craft takes the time to not just re-design a pair of sneakers, but everything else as well. That goes for the laces, shoe box etc. Even add additional items to further enhance it. Proper presentation is a must. All these little things help bring your creation to life. Below are a few amazing examples of well done custom jobs I’ve found around the web.

Company: Thirst Customs
Inspiration: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [ Sample Pic ]
From the turtle shell print, to the bandana to the first name initial on both, theres nothing that was left off of either pair. The folks over at Thirst clearly took their time on these, and it shows. No way you wouldn’t break a few necks walking around in them. Incredible job.

Company: Diversitile
Inspiration: Iron Man & War Machine [ Sample Pic ]
Amazing. The “rusty” look on the War Machine’s are flawless. The core generator lights? Nice touch. I have nothing negative to say about either pair other than I’m upset I don’t own them. Hats off to Diversitile for these.

Company: EmmanueLabor
Inspiration: Kanye West’s Graduation Album [ Sample Pic ]
Using the iconic college dropout bear fur, mixed with the shutter shades and Graduation cover colorway, these would be on my “to buy” list. Not overly flashy, but enough to make sure everyone notices. Ill.

Company: Diversitile
Inspiration: Medusa [ Sample Pic ]
Another gem from Diversitile. When I originally came up with this topic, these are the sneakers I had in mind. They took the time to customize EVERYTHING. Right down to the box. I was sold just off the presentation. If you plan to re-design a pair, make it yours. Make the entire thing seem original. I feel that way about this.

These are just a few of the many pairs I’ve encountered. However, to keep this from being too long, there will be a Part 2, strictly used as a gallery for the countless other sick customs I feel deserve shine. Stay tuned!
