J. Gunn: Dime – A – Dozen Music Review

You know I’m an Aggie, right? Oh you didn’t know? North Carolina A&T State University Born and Bred and when I die I’ll be Aggie Dead! Wait! This isn’t random, there is a connection, don’t leave me yet!

On that post-collegiate note, I want to start this off by apologizing. I’m not a music blogger; you’re not going to be blown away by my reviews. Shit, I can barely read good. The only thing I do is convey a certain love for music. If I can nod my head to it, whether it be Hip Hop of K-Pop, it’s good music to me (and I have impeccable taste, if I must stay so myself). If I can put it in my CD player and let it play, no interruptions, then it’s GREAT music to me.

J.Gunn

So, although this won’t be some magical advent into a musical greatness structure that will astound you, you’ll still want to hear me out. I’m not typing what I’m about to type because I went to school with this MC. I went to school with a LOT of rappers, they were everywhere. You couldn’t go to class, down the strip, across The Bowl, up by the plots, down by Vanstory, etc without a mix-tape being thrust into your hands. I know, I dated a few of them and I tended to use their CDs as coasters or Frisbees (that variable depended on the weather).

.

.

But despite all of the distractions a campus full of “up and coming” rappers provided, no matter what era, I’ve always dug this dude’s music. And I’m not alone. So has BET Music Matters, NxLevel Music Group and Street Flaava Entertainment. After that connection, J.Gunn began touring across the east coast and under them released an album, (“The Perfection Xperiment 2″ which featured production from 9th Wonder, Krhysis and Nicolay of Justus League fame) creating a legion of internet and international fans. And we’ve followed him all the way.

So as paramount as his career has been, his fans have been there from jump; yelling his name out in public, asking for autographs, running behind his car. You know, real life well deserved groupie shit (no #lol). From the freestyle battles in Moore, to The Sky release party at Greene Street, to Pinot Noir and now a Dime a Dozen.

(Aye look for me at 2:04 BLACKABLACKAPOWPOW!!)

.Shot on location during the GREATEST HOMECOMING ON EARTH, (trademarked and stamped, gracias) J.Gunn brings to us a ‘Dime – a – Dozen‘ from his latest musical triumph ‘God’s Speed‘. The track comes with an old school feel that embodies the party life while cultivating a sense of an old friendship that will never die. This is the track you play when you’re on the yard, at a cookout, on the way to the club, INSIDE the club, leaving the club, right before you walk in to Waffle House, you name it. It’s just that smooth. It culls a sense of reminiscent memories out of you, the good times, a “let’s sit down and remember Summer ’07” sort of vibe.

..

.

The track, released earlier this week, has already made it to the front page of DJBooth.net amongst the likes of ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Big Boi and Rihanna. You can check out their review (because they are so much better than me at this sort of breakdown and buildup of good music). You an also check him out at BET Music Matters and at J.Gunn Music for more information, booking info, and more.

Tumblr Short

Sometimes I’ll come up with something so ingenious (I am tooting my own horn, thank you, so sit back and enjoy the smooth sounds of the brass) on Tumblr that I forget that only my leagues of followers on there can see it (again, a toot-toot-tooting, you know the sound).

Anyhootananny, I came up with this after my obsessive infatuation with Loki (who I affectionatly call LOK-DOGG ) and Tom Hiddleson (who we all -his fandom- call Hiddles) reached a pinacle (mere hours after I left the movie theater).

.

Hey boo.

You see I am completely infatuated. I mean look at him! Who doesn’t appreciate a “I’ll kill you while you sleep, you quivering quaking mass of uselessness” every once in a while? So as everyone was looking at Thor’s(FINE ASS), I was enthralled by Loki of Asgard. But then I began to wonder why….

Well, after about an hour of brainstorming, all conclusive reasoning boiled down to the fact he completely and exhaustively reminded me of my favorite character of all time, Mr. ‘I Don’t Give a Fuck’, himself, Ulquiorra Cifer of Hueco Mundo.

So, in a insane attempt to control the temptation of dissolving into a brown tinted glob of fangirl at my revelation, I came up with a short list. I could belabor the point but that would rescind into an aberrent level of adoration that I don’t believe the internet is ready for. It would be ugly.

So without further ado, the similarities between Loki of Asgard and Ulquiorra Cifer of Hueco Mundo.

.

  • Horned Helmet – Check
  • Dark Unruly Hair – Check
  • Mysterious Angsty Eyes – Check
  • Apparent LOATHING for all things human – Check
  • The feeling of complete loneliness – Check
  • All things GREENCheck
  • The power to emit energy – Check
  • Manipulative – Check
  • Bluntfully honest in their own beliefs – Check
  • Associations with horses or horse like things (Loki’s baby daddy Svaðilfari and Ulquiorra’s association with former espada, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck and her released form as a centaur)- Check
  • Ulqui’s Lanza del Relámpago and Loki’s Chitauri Scepter- Check
  • And death stares – Check

.

.

Like I said, short list. I could go into detail and maybe one day I will, but it behooved me to share this list because at the moment I am having Loki feels (Thanks to the obsessive CULT of Hiddles on Tumblr) and needed to share.

Jade Out.
(Oh, and if you don’t mind ridiculous levels of fanbased madness (KPop, Thor, Anime, ect, you know the drill, you can join me over at my tumblr at( http://blacknoonajade.tumblr.com/ ) Adios!

They Did It For Love…

Every movie, book, show, you name it, usually follows a certain theme or contains a specific troupe; star crossed lovers, good girl gone bad, metaphors and allegory, betrayal and irony. All of these things. They make them special, unique in their own rights and for some people they are the solitary link of connection between making a story line fictional and making a story line speak directly to the audience. We explore these themes and tropes everyday, it’s what makes connecting with a story so powerful, the ability to see into, break down and relate.

K-Drama Review of 2012

So last year I let the good people of ToySldrsville know about some awesome awesome K-Dramas (Korean Dramas, as if you didn’t KNOW me by now) and this year I’m back because as great as last year was, this year was so DAMNED good, that I could let this post go by the wayside. I mean I’ve been laughing, crying and screaming at my computer laptop so much (as I watch attentively EVERY week, even juggling 3-4 dramas at a time. HAHA SCREW YOU CABLE BILL, this is FREE!) that I don’t think I have the mental capacity for emotions anymore.

SO.

We’ll start off with ….
