A mixture of art, events & different places we’ve visited that were interesting enough to share. A day in the life of the Sldrs.

Photo Recap: Comic Con 2017

Fall is my favorite time of the year for a number of reasons. Most of my favorite shows are back, NFL/NBA, halloween, hoodies and ofcourse, Comic Con. This weekend at the Javits Center didn’t disappoint. In the 3 years that I’ve managed to go, it never has.  Free stuff, custom artwork, panels on your favorite shows/games, collectibles, behind the scene look at things to come, full blown escape rooms, you name it. There wasn’t even enough time to cover it all. Yet somehow, I’m still exhausted.

If you haven’t gone before, I strongly suggest you make atleast 1 visit. It’s beyond worth it. And then, there’s the cosplay.  Half the time you’re too busy just admiring the amazing effort some people put into their costumes that you’ll forget to take a photo. I’m talking from experience. Regardless, if you couldn’t make it out this year, I took as many photos as possible to share the experience. Enjoy!

Recap: Super Console Drive

Curated by @Copastetik, the Super Console Drive’s aim was to create a fun atmosphere for both kids and adults alike with the idea of giving back being at the forefront. All proceeds from the entire event went towards the library in P.S. 154 here in NYC.  It featured prixes, catered food from Chefin’ While Black, Game Trivia from The Colton Show and a LIMITED edition Toy Sldrs x Street Fighter tee for sale. Check out a few pics below if you weren’t able to make it. Hope to see you at the next one!

Street Art in Bushwick [ Part 2 ]

On the last installment of Bushwick Street Art, I showed you a lot of work found via the JMZ Walls Collective. But, as I also mentioned, there are other groups keep things vibrant around the Borough.

Enter the Bushwick Art Collective. Started accidentally by Joseph Ficalora, the project sort’ve came into fruition after Ficalora began inviting artists to paint walls within the area as long as they followed a few simple rules:

1. Nothing offensive to children, women or the local businesses walls they were allowed to paint on.
2. No politics.
3. No one is paid for the work. The artists donate their own supplies and time, and the building owners donate their wall space.

From there, it took off to what you see today. Artists from all over the world have made their way to Bushwick for the chance to showcase their work on a wall within the city. Interested in checking it out? Head on over to Troutman Street and St. Nicholas Avenue. Or for those familiar with the L line, get off on Jefferson St. and simply walk around. The pieces are everywhere. Enjoy the photos!

Notorious B.I.G: 20 Years Art Exhibit

“’cause I went from negative to positive and it’s all…good.”

It’s been 20 years (time flies right?) since Christopher Wallace was slain in L.A. To celebrate the life and times of the legendary MC, Brooklyn’s own Bishop Gallery held an art show from 4/10-4/12 showcasing the work of several artists paying their respects to Frank White. There were some really great pieces there. If you weren’t able to make it, check out a few of the photos below.
